Homework for Wednesday

Ok, I did not have a copy of the slide at home so here is the idea of the homework due on Wednesday.

You have the same fool swimming across the potomac at great falls. The water is moving at a constant speed of 5 meters/second. The swimmer moves at a constant rate of 1.5 m/s. You pick the angle he chooses to swim upstream at. The distance across the river is 81.3 meters straight across. Remember you cannot pick an angle that is a multiple of 5.

Question: How far downstream does the fool end up from where he started?

This is an assessment grade. I am grading you on your ability to communicate the math to me. Use drawings, complete sentences, equations, symbols, charts, graphs, peanut butter... wait not peanut butter. Use anything you want to describe how you arrived at your solution.

I am looking for the process rather than a solution. You will all have different answers (mostly), and I may or may not check the validity of every single answer. But I will be closely looking at how you think, how you reason, and how you communicate that to me.

If your work is not neat and clean, I will probably hand it back to you and ask you to try again.

SWEET! I am excited to see your work. I have never tried anything like this in a math class before... and you never know what awesome results your students will give you until you give it a try. GOOD LUCK!

Row games!

In this activity, you "worked" in pairs. You did problem 1A while your partner did 1B. They were different problems, but resulted in the same answer. You knew you were correct (probably) if you both got the same answer. If you had different answers you had to help each other out to figure out the solution.

If you want extra practice you can try the side you did not do in class.

Im sick of teaching you everything (JK), You figure out compound interest

In class you guys discovered the ideas of how interest is compounded in a savings account at discrete time intervals (not continuously). This is that activity.

"Where's My Money At?"

This was an assignment on practicing calculating compound interest (discrete). Your homework assignment was #1-11
