Ok even though I said the post on Obama was completely apolitical. I figured we would even the field and pick on a GOP candidate. Please go to this link, watch the video and double check John Stewart's Math on how long it would take to create enough jobs.

I WANT TO SEE ACTUAL MATH HERE!
By the way, Mitt Romney's corporation Bain Capital has approximately 375 employees.

ReplyDeleteI also love watching the Daily Show, I prefer the Colbert Report though, but both are very funny. Here are the facts:
In 1985 there were 10 employees, now 26 years later in 2011 there are 375 employees. Jon Stewart said that at that rate it would take 4 million years to create jobs for all of America (about 312,404,092 people).
I would solve this by dividing 312,404,092/375=833,077.5787
Then I multiplied that answer by 2011 and I got 1,675,319,011
Then I subtracted 2011 from that answer and concluded that in 1,675,317,000 years, there will be enough jobs for every one in America.
*In 1,675,317,000 years* I have a feeling that I did it wrong, it was a little confusing, if anyone can do it correctly, feel free to correct me.
I treated the problem as a linear equation, but thats probably not the logical case.
ReplyDeleteHowever I took a different path than Dan. I divided 375 by 26, which is approx. 14 employees per year. From there, I simple made an equation:
14x=312,404,092. (X being the number of years it would take).
Divide out and you should get 22,314,578.
22,314,578 years to fill out all jobs for 2011.
1985: 10 employees 2011: 375: 26 years 312,416,180 people in america aprox. I took the same approach as travis. I divided 375 by 26 and got which rounded is 14 employees per year. I then set 14X = to 312,416,180 ( x being years) i divided 312,416,180 by 14 and got approximately 22,315,441 years to get every jobless person in America a job.

ReplyDeleteok this is how you od the problem.
in 1985 there we 10 employees. in 2011 there are 375. first you subract 10 employees because he started out with ten. then you divide 365 people by 26 years (1985-2011). he hires approximately 14 people per year.in america there are about 312,400,000 people. you then multiply 312,400,000 by 14 and you get 22,314,285 to give all of them jobs.
