Because drawing the angle of 1,214,453° would be a heck of lines to draw going around the graph we would have to draw the last piece of the ending angle:
Step 1) 1,214,435° / 360° = 3373.48056° it is the # of times it is going to go around the graph counterclockwise
Step 2) .48056 X 360 = 173.0016° that determines the end result of 1,214,453°
Step 3) 173° would land on the II quadrant
Step 4) 180° - 173 = 7° the angle stops at 83° leaving 7° left to get the the x-axis
Reference angle: find the degree that gets you faster to the x-axis which is 7°
if you divide 1,214,435 into 360 it equals 3373.48056 but the 3373 is not the important part because that is equal to just going around in a complete 360 degrees circle 3373 times. so you end up at 0 degrees. thats where you start. then you multiply .48056x360 and get 173 degrees. since that is in the 2nd quadrant u have to subtract 180-173 and get 7 degrees the reference angle for 1,214,453 is 7 degrees.
I got the same answer as everyone else, but instead of using exact numbers I rounded.
This is what I did: 1,214,453/360=3373 3373*360=1,214,280 (which equals the amount of degrees covered by going around 3373 times) 1214453-1214280=173 (initial degrees minus previous answer) 180-173=7
so the reference angle for 1,214,453 is 7 degrees.
wow I think we all did it the same way. I divided 1,214,453/360. I got 3373.48056. I didnt pay attention to the 3373 because that is just the amount of times it went in a full 360. Then I just looked at the .48056 to find the remainder degrees of the 360. I muliplied that number 360 and I got 173. Then I subtrated 180-173 and I got 7 degrees.
you grab 1,214,453 and divide it by 360 1214453/360=(something).480556 then you multiply (something).480556 by 360 (something).480556x360 = 173.0016 therefore 1,214,453 = 173 degrees and in order to find the reference angle you must fint the QUICKEST way to get to the x axis.. and the closest would be at 180 degrees so now... 180-173 and the answer will be 7 degrees .. and thats your reference angle...
I also tried doing it by grabbing 1.214,453 divided by 2pi and 1pi. but for 1 pi the answer i got was 386572.3962 and then i grabbed .3962 and multiplied that by pi and got 1.244699009 so the reference angle would also be the same number as that because that is 1.somthing degrees away from the x axis ... and the same thing happened for the 2pi... just the answer was 1.954070631
1,214,453 divided by 360 equals 3373.480556
ReplyDeleteNow, by truncating the whole number part (3373) as we learned in class, we get...
.480556 multiplied by 360 equals 173 degrees
A 173 degree angle means that the reference angle is...
180 minus 173 equals 7 degrees as the final answer!

ReplyDeleteThis is what I did:
1,214,453/360=3373
3373*360=1,214,280 (which equals the amount of degrees covered by going around 3373 times)
1214453-1214280=173 (initial degrees minus previous answer)

ReplyDeleteso the angle is +1,214,453 degrees ..
ReplyDeleteyou grab 1,214,453 and divide it by 360
1214453/360=(something).480556
then you multiply (something).480556 by 360
(something).480556x360 = 173.0016
therefore 1,214,453 = 173 degrees and in order to find the reference angle you must fint the QUICKEST way to get to the x axis.. and the closest would be at 180 degrees
so now...
180-173

hmmm... interesting part on the radian measure miguel...does anybody have any thoughts if you can divide the original degree by 2pi radians?
