Blog Post 4A

How much would you pay for the following objects. Why?

More than one person can post the same answer IF they have a different way of arriving at the same answer.

  1. Did you just ask someone to wait a bit as you took a picture of your breakfast :o but on another note if the apple juice came in a 6-pack and I get 5 instead I'd divide the total price of 3.30(rounded up to make things simpler for me) and divide it by 6. Next I'd subtract that from 3.30 for a total of 2.75.

    Repeat for blackberry soda so 5.50/4 = ~1.37•3 = 4.11
    For 7 eggs out of 12 I'd round up 2.30/12 = ~0.19 •7 = 1.34

  2. Without all the missing items the total would be $11.07 BUT with the deduction of the missing items, I got that you'd pay a total of $8.20

    A summary of what I did was that I took the suggested amount for each item and divided it by the amount of items that are suppose to be in the package, then I subtracted that answer by the suggested amount to get the cost for the whole thing without the missing items. Lastly, I added all the amounts together to get a total for the purchase.

    This is how I got to my answer...

    APPLE JUICE:
    3.29/6=0.55
    3.29-0.55=2.74 (expected cost)

    BLACKBERRY SODA:
    5.49/4=1.37
    5.49-1.37=4.12 (expected cost)

    EGGS:
    2.29/12=0.19
    0.19*5=0.95 {the 5 is for the missing eggs}
    2.29-0.95=1.34 (expected cost)

    TOTAL:
    2.74+4.12+1.34=8.20

  3. To be lazy and cheap i'd do:

    3.29/5 = $.66c
    5.49/3 = $1.83
    2.29/7 = $.38c
    Be cheap and pay $2.87

    But to be fair and do it in a mathematical/civil way
    I'd do ..

    Apple Juice : 3.29/6 = $.55c ---> 3.29 - 0.55
    = **$2.74**

    Soda : 5.49/4 = $1.37 ----> 5.49 - 1.37
    = **$4.12**

    Eggs : 2.29/12 = $0.19 ----> So each egg is $0.19 so then it'll be 2.29 - 0.19 x 5 [5 for 5 eggs missing].

    = **$1.34**

    Then you add them to get your price altogether.
    2.74 + 4.12 + 1.34 =

    So you gotta pay $8.20

  4. For the apple juice i'd do
    3.29/6 = $.55 each. so i'd multiply that by 5.... $.55x5 = 2.741666667 or $2.75 for 5 apple juice cans

    For the Izze i'd do
    5.49/4 = $1.37 each. so multiply that by 3...$1.37x3 = 4.11775 or $4.12 for 3 bottles of Izze

    Lastly for the carton of eggs I would do
    2.29/12 = $.19c each so i'd multiply that by 7.... $.38x7= 1.335833333 or $1.34 for a carton of eggs with 5 eggs missing

    Overall you would pay
    $2.74(5 cans of apple juice) + $4.12(3 bottles of Izze) + $1.34(7 eggs)=$8.20 is your total

  5. I would pay nothing... i was promised a 6 pack, if I didn't get a 6 pack i would be furious and storm out, why would I pay for what I don't want?

  6. I agree with the comment above me. I wouldn't pay for these items because they have things missing. I'll just leave and go to another store that has full packs of things.

  7. In my opinion I would just pay full price because its just one thing deducted from each of the items and I would not go through all the arguments and calculations just to pay the "fair price". Otherwise I would just go and find another pack of full items, it's not like the store doesn't have anymore, and it did not say that, so it's common sense.

  8. well i agree with all of the methods people did above but to do it differently.... i set up proportions :)
    first for the apple juice you set up:
    $3.29/6 = x/5
    cross multiply
    get 6x=16.45
    divide each side by 6 and get x= $2.74 for 5 apple juices.

    for the Izze's it's:
    $5.49/4= x/3
    cross multiply
    get 4x=16.47, divide each side by 4 and get
    x= $4.12 for 3 Izze's

    for the eggs:
    $2.29/12= x/7
    cross multiply
    get 12x= 16.03, divide each side by 12 and get
    x = $1.34 for 7 eggs

    the total would be $8.20

  9. For these items, I'd do a discount. Everything would be $1 off the regular price since things are missing.
    For the apple juice it would be like this:
    3.29 - 6 = -2.71
    -2.71 + 5 + $2.29

    The blackberry soda would be the same thing except i'll subtract the 4 sodas by $5.49 and get $1.49. The i'll add that with the actual 3 sodas shown in the picture. This will get me $4.49

    For the eggs, I'll take off 20 cents for each missing egg. Since theres 5 missing, i'll multiply that by .20 (.20 x 5 =1) Then subtract 1 from 2.29 and get $1.29 for the total price.

    so yeah the apple juice would be $2.29. Blackberry soda: %4.49 Eggs: $1.29

  10. Apple Juice—3.29/6=.54
    Only 5 cans LESS one from advertised so subtract .54
    3.29-.54= 2.75

    Blackberry Soda—5.49/4=1.37
    Only 4 cans LESS one from advertised so subtract 1.37
    5.49-1.37= 4.12

    Eggs—2.29/12=.19
    Only 5 eggs LESS seven from advertised so subtract .19 (5 xs)
    (5).19-2.29=1.34

    TOTAL: $8.22

  11. i would pay 2.74 for the soda because if 3.29 is the original price for 6 than it would be 55 cents for each making it 2.74 dollars, i would pay 4.11 dollars for the juice because the original divided by 4 as a pack is 1.37 dollars each so 1.37 dollars times 3 is 4.11 dollars, and i would pay 1.33 for the eggs because each is worth 19 cents because 2.29 divided by 12 is 19 and 19 times 7 equals 1.33 dollars.

  12. Apple Juice= 3.29/6=.65
    3.29 signifies the starting price for 6/6. So in order to find the price for one of the drinks, you divide the price for 5 by 5. You get .65, then subtract it to the starting price, thus getting 2.64.

    After which, it's just rinse and repeat.

    Izze:

    5.49/4= 1.83
    1.83=1 soda
    5.49-1.83= 3.66 (Price for 3)

    Eggs:

    2.29/12=.32
    .19=1 egg
    .19x7=1.33

    In all, you would be paying 8$

  13. So after doing some calculations i divided the total prize of the item by the amount of things that he bought. I did this for all 3 items and then after i got the answer i subtracted it by the total of its individual prize and finally added it all up and got a total of 8.33$.
    Apple juice: 2.71$ +
    Blackberry: 3.66$ +
    Eggs: 1.96$ = 8.33$
